The Tarot Reader
Volume 1

In late March of 2022, the Tarot Lessons video series began with Tarot Lesson No. 1 of Many being uploaded to YouTube. It was Lesson No. 1, but there was no overall outline or structure with a defined end point, so I wasn’t sure how many Lessons there would be.

The Tarot – with its 78 cards – is like a book with 78 pages that can be read in any order. We might prefer to approach the study in an organized way, but the Tarot is like life since it deals with everyday situations. Just as in life, we can begin anywhere – we can start by considering the past, or the present or the future; we can make decisions for no good reason, or having thought out various possibilities.

So with the Tarot, we can begin anywhere, with any card, and see where it takes us or where we get to. Rather than have an overall plan for the lessons, the idea was to start and just keep going. We would cover and discuss what came up, and in this way we would get to everything in time, in the order in which it (whatever “it” might mean) came to us.

As it happened, while shuffling on camera, The Empress card popped out and landed face-up on the cloth. If it had been face-down, I might have put it back into the deck and kept shuffling, but it seemed like it wanted to be the first thing we looked at.

As the series progressed, I usually had a rough idea of what I was going to talk about in each Lesson, but it was not scripted and the material was presented in a more conversational way. A lot more could have been said in any Lesson, however, but it would have meant going off at tangents and never getting to the end of the video. With this written version of the material, we can present more developed or complete ideas. The audio track has been transcribed, and then tightened up and edited and enlarged to make it more readable.
